Florida Governor Announces New Funding Recommendations for Hurricane Preparedness, Response and Recovery

Governor Jeb Bush and Lt. Governor Toni Jennings have outlined a $565 million budget recommendation of state and federal funding for emergency management at the Tiger Bay Club of Central Florida, Inc. The Governor was joined by Emergency Management Director Craig Fugate, Tiger Bay Club of Central Florida, Inc. President Fred Leonhardt, business leaders, club members and members of the community. Establishing a “Culture of Preparedness” for hurricanes is a top priority for Governor Bush. These new efforts will significantly enhance Florida’s ability to prepare for hurricanes, respond quickly in the aftermath of a storm, recover from the damage and impacts to the economy, and mitigate future threats to public safety and infrastructure. It’s Finally Over?

Tropical Storm Zeta fell apart Friday in the open Atlantic, finally bringing the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season to an end. Zeta, which was never a threat to land, set one last record before strong wind shear and dry air robbed it of its wind speed and other characteristics of a tropical system. No named storm ever endured so long into January.

Number 26 — Tropical Storm Epsilon

The Atlantic hurricane season ends today, but Tropical Storm Epsilon could still cause dangerous surf conditions in Bermuda, forecasters said. Epsilon, the 26th named storm of the busiest hurricane season on record, formed Tuesday in the central Atlantic. It was not expected to hit Bermuda or any other land, according to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
