Felix Becomes a Hurricane

Felix has just gained enough strength to become a hurricane and there is a new tropical storm watch out for Jamaica according to the National Hurricane Center.
Currently the center of Hurricane Felix is located about 155 miles east-northeast of Bonaire and about 270 miles east of Aruba. Felix is moving toward the west near 18mph and this general motion is expected to continue during the next 24 hours.

On this track, Felix will be passing near or to the north of the islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao later tonight or early Sunday morning. According to reports from NOAA hurricane hunter aircraft, maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75mph with higher gusts.

Currently the hurricane force winds extend out 15 miles from the center. The wind speed makes Felix a Category One hurricane. More strengthening is expected within the next 24 hours.
