Number 26 — Tropical Storm Epsilon

The Atlantic hurricane season ends today, but Tropical Storm Epsilon could still cause dangerous surf conditions in Bermuda, forecasters said. Epsilon, the 26th named storm of the busiest hurricane season on record, formed Tuesday in the central Atlantic. It was not expected to hit Bermuda or any other land, according to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Tropical Storm Gamma weakened into a tropical depression Sunday and drifted off Honduras after torrential downpours lashed the Central American coast, killing 14 people — including a young family of four.

Tropical Storm Gamma Continues

Slow-moving Gamma was expected to bypass Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, still recovering from a battering by Hurricane Wilma three weeks ago, and forecasters revised an earlier prediction to say that it probably would not directly hit southern Florida, where Wilma also wreaked havoc. The storm was expected to reach Cuba on Monday but forecasters said it probably would not gain strength.

Gamma Becomes Tropical Storm

Tropical Storm Gamma is moving northwest near 6mph and a gradual turn toward the north-northwest is expected to occur later today. Maximum sustained winds are near 45mph with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours.

Tropical Depression Forms in Caribbean

A tropical depression drenched St. Vincent and Trinidad on Monday, possibly killing two people in a mudslide and destroying several homes, authorities said.
