Hurricane Wilma Makes Landfall In Florida

Hurricane Wilma is gaining forward speed early this morning as moves across southern Florida. Wilma’s forward speed is up to 20 mph and even faster movement to 25 mph is anticipated. Landfall occurred at 6:30 a.m. EDT near Cape Romano, Fla. The hurricane has strengthened with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph (Category 3). Winds have gusted over 80 mph with a 3.5-foot storm surge in Key West as the southeastern eyewall approached.
