Hurricane Wilma Enters Gulf Waters

Hurricane Wilma, drifting to the northeast, has emerged completely (the center of circulation) over the southern Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane warnings have now been posted for central and southern Florida. Hurricane warnings are also in effect for western Cuba and continue for the eastern half of the Yucatan. Maximum sustained winds in Wilma have remained at 100 mph but with Wilma’s emergence into the Gulf, any further weakening may have come to an end. In fact, some signs of restrengthening is appearing on satellite with new bursts of thunderstorms exploding around the hurricane’s circulation.
