Hurricane Wilma Now A Category Three

The eyewall of Hurricane Wilma has battered Cozumel and the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula including Cancun. Wilma made landfall in Cozumel on Friday afternoon and has now made landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula overnight. An automated reporting station in Cancun reported a wind gust of 133 mph before the station quit reporting. In addition, an automated Mexican Navy station in Isla Mujeres has reported wind gusts to hurricane force with a maximum gust of 108 mph. Wilma is stationary on the northeastern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula and is forecasted to emerge over water by Saturday night. The Yucatan will continue to be hard hit right through much of Saturday.
