Hurricane Wilma Moves Over Cozumel

The northwestern eye wall of Hurricane Wilma has moved over Cozumel and the center could make landfall on the northeastern Yucatan tonight. Wilma continues moving to the northwest slowly at approximately 5mph.

Maximum sustained winds are near 145mph, a Category Four hurricane. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 85 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward to 200 miles.

An eastern Gulf of Mexico buoy indicates that large swells generated by Hurricane Wilma have propagated into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. These swells will likely affect portions of the northern gulf coast today.
